Tower Opera Swansea City Opera (SCO)
SCO is planning to undertake a major European Union contemporary opera project involving communities from five EU Member States. The project will involve young professional singers, local choirs and school children from each partner, participating in performances alongside professional opera practitioners from the UK and the other partner member states. The opera, composed by Alun Hoddinott, Wales’ most eminent composer, is called TOWER and has been written specifically for youth and community involvement. Together with the accompanying education programme, it has been conceived as a way of offering easier access to contemporary opera. It will also involve a Community Education project developed with collaboration between the 5 partners.
The subject of the opera is Tower Colliery in South Wales and the dramatic story of the workers´ buy-out, which saved the pit from closure. In 1994 Tower Colliery at Hirwaun in South Wales was bought by 240 workers, whose members each put in £8,000 (approx.11,676 EUR) in redundancy money. The pit is now the only co-operative run coalmine in the world and the story is an important piece of European history. Deadline for applications (late) October 2007. Preparation and educational work to begin Sept/Oct 2008 culminating in performances in 2009. Common Ground Scotland
We are an arts organisation with established projects. We are not in ourselves currently actively seeking partners, but I am sure that there are people out there who might want to work with us. How do we make people aware of the status of our project? Common Ground Scotland has a vision for cross cultural dialogue using the traditional arts as 'the common ground'. We have been established for 5 years. This year we have expanded our summer schools to a six week period at Glaisnock House which is being established as a centre for creativity. Common Ground will be a distinct week within that six week programme. Our websites are http://www.commongroundscotland.com and http://www.glaisnock.org Posted 15 June 2007

Partner search for the realisation of a ELM II- European Literary Marathon 2008 project Fondazione Aida is a professional theatre in Verona (Italy) recognised by the Italian Ministry of Culture. Established in Verona in 1983, it is now a cultural centre that deals not only with theatre, but also with different cultural events and projects to spread culture among people. The aim of this new proposal is to repeat the successful experience realised in 2007 by organising a second Literary Marathon with some new aspects in order to be in a wider European level to promote and communicate the different cultures parts of our common European Literary heritage.
It will be located into a theatre, a cinema, or a square and it will be free-entrance. Readers will be chosen among citizens volunteers: students, housewives, professionals, retired people, etc..
Some of the main objectives of the proposal for the ELM II are:
1. Create a unique and innovative European event that involves at least 6 countries in 6 different places at the same time that through its organisation would provide an “arena” for intercultural dialogue
2. Facilitate the access to what is generally considered ‘high culture’ and widen cultural participation by regular people in Europe

Singing Out Europe
A search for two co-organisers from different European countries: to generate a network of choirs on the European level. So the co-organisers ought to be institutions devoted to choral music. The main objective of the project is to take up and maintain a cooperation and sharing of experiences between European amateur choirs. The exchange concerns vocal techniques, traditional repertoire, ways of working, sustaining activity, ideas of increasing mobility of amateur choirs in Europe, and taking up joint activities. An important theme is also sharing the roots of choral singing in all countries, finding specific features of each European country hidden in traditional and folk repertoire. European Culture Programmme Center - Lithuania
Lithuania is one of countries, which became a member of European Union not long ago (in 2005), has cultural heritage with particularly old traditions. Lithuanian ethnic culture distinguishes itself by its many-sided, diverse and long-lasting layer of spiritual activity. The part of national heritage which survived and reached us is various and interesting. These are the values being formed for centuries, artistic expression, customs, folklore, decoration of everyday things and etc. We, modern people, feel strange about the fact that Lithuanians sang all day long. A song together with dance, theatre and art existed in all the ethnographic regions of Lithuania. Until these days Lithuania is called a country of songs. Each region has a unique melody of songs, folk traditions, which survived till now and are still cherished by people of various ages. However, cultural spaces, which are developing more rapidly, and spreading opportunities of communication constantly influence the needs, demands and opportunities not only of society, but particularly of modern and active youth. Professional art often alienates from cultural traditions, becoming universal and losing its national character. Thus, it is very important to educate and develop interaction between cultural heritage and professional art. The integration of art (music, theatre, art and dance) and growing demand of communication and cooperation are becoming more urgent in the spheres of culture and educational activity. The development of cultural heritage of his/her own country as well as discovery and acknowledgement of cultures of other European countries is a very significant factor in the medium of school youth. The project “Intercultural cooperation of educational institutions on the basis of youth creation with the support of Professional art” was created with the aim to show the cultural peculiarities of our country to young people from other European countries and to get acquainted with their cultural spaces. The aim of the project is to provide opportunities to the young people of school age (12-18 years) for communication and cooperation while creating cultural-creative projects not only with the youth and professional artists of their own country, but also from other countries, referring to the help, experience and skills of professionals in order to develop cultural competence of young people, to get acquainted with the culture of other European countries, their ethno-traditional and professional art. The project seeks to develop general cultural space, based on common cultural heritage of Europeans, and to develop cultural cooperation of cultural institutions and their employees. Also we aim to educate the abilities of school age youth to act better in any of art fields, adopting the experience of professionals and integrating separate art spheres (music, art, dance, theatre). The principal aim of this project is to educate creative abilities of school age youth in the context of professional art and intersubject integration, which are based on the intercultural cooperation. In that way we hope to encourage the formation of European citizenship. The organizer of the project is Vydūnas secondary school of Klaipėda (Lithuania). The education in this school is based on stressed music and other arts teaching. The information about the school You will find on the site: www.vyduno.lt . Rios de Ouro
The project «Rios de Ouro/ Gold Rivers» wants to have a continuous actions related to a very specific cultural heritage: the gold mines exploitations, trough two of their distinct expressions – the “Conheiras” as open air gold mines explorations, and the “filão” mines trough out the subterraneous/ underground diggings. These archaeological and geological mining sites of extreme interest, were an antropic target in several historical periods and they have left severe and profound paisagistic marks, associated to the explorations of the Quaternary fluvial terrace. This project has a main goal, the divulgation of these geo-archaeological sites, and the production of knowledge with the realization of quality investigation based on the partners example with the protection and investigation associations of similar realities. The main activities we wanted to develop, involves six scientific publications about the gold mines explorations: three archaeological works with investigation, and other three with a child and youth character with resource to illustrated texts; the realization of an International Congress about this theme; a web site with all the information about these gold mines, and the composition of all the information gathered that will be useful on the composition of an musealized space dedicated to these geo-archaeological places. Archaeologists, Geologists, local population that is able to preserve these sites and the main community who wants to visit and understand them. These geo-archaeological sites do not have any kind of specific budget, so what we want with this program, is some kind of visibility on the Portuguese and European cultural collective. Partners required to develop Insite within a European context Insite is a Cultural Tourism programme that commissions, promotes and supports a series of cultural initiatives celebrating sites around the county of Essex in a contemporary and innovative way (see www.insite-essex.co.uk). Our approach to Cultural tourism as a means of empowering people to celebrate their unique identity has attracted much attention. I am now looking at developing our plans for the future, and believe that our model will form a great basis for a European cultural programme. I am therefore looking for potential partners that may wish to work with us to develop Insite within a European context.

Developing new models of teaching and learning in the arts within higher educationMy current role is managing a project named Artswork, a Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning in the Creative Industries. We’re working across a number of creative fields - interactive digital media, fashion & textiles, publishing, broadcasting, music technology and performing arts – to enhance the employability of graduates in the arts. Artswork is a creative interface between the worlds of higher education and the wider world. Whilst I have no immediate project proposals, we would be interested in working with European partners in developing new models of teaching and learning in the arts within higher education and are looking to share the research and outcomes from our work with others. I would be grateful to hear from any partners with a shared interest, any other universities looking to be involved in the new programme or any artists/creative partners with a desire to work on such a project.

To enhance Global Citizenship / racial awareness in primary schools by using the arts I would like the project to highlight poverty issues in Africa and would hope that input from the project would lead the schools into fund raising work for Unicef. This could be done as an enterprise topic. My remit is for primary schools only and I would like the project to focus on the plight of children, as I feel our kids would relate to that. I am a seconded teacher working as cultural coordinator with Renfrewshire council. I am presently trying to link with out local museum which has links to Africa and am hoping to involve Renfrewshire Arts, who have just amalgamated with the museum. Any input at all appreciated!
